Completion of 40,000 square foot facility expansion for the production of solar connector systems

Stäubli Corporation has completed its facility expansion which now totals 100,000 sq/ft.

In the new building addition, Stäubli will manufacture electrical connector systems for the rapidly expanding solar power market for its Stäubli Group Company Multi-Contact (http://www.multi-contact.com). In addition, Stäubli will start the assembly of tool changers for the automation industry as well as electromagnetic quick mold clamping systems for the North American plastic market.

The company celebrated the completion on October 29th with a ribbon cutting ceremony. After some remarks lauding the efforts of key personnel to make the expansion a reality, Stäubli Corporation CEO Yves Stäubli, Stäubli Group CEO Rolf Strebel, and Multi-Contact CEO Franco Delvecchio cut the ribbon as Stäubli employees applauded. The Solar Product line of connectors and junction boxes will deliver a flexible solution for time-saving, dependable series cabling of solar panels which are integrated into buildings or stand alone arrays. The Multi-Contact connector system will allow for the PV arrays to be pre-assembled and pre-wired in the shop or on site. The cable couplers are fully touch-protected and designed for high voltage and high current-carrying capacity. They are equipped with the company’s MultilamTM contact band and meet the IP 67 protection requirement in the photovoltaic industry.

Renewable energies such as solar are becoming increasingly important in today’s economic climate. According to Solar Buzz LLC, a leading Solar Power Market Research Firm, world solar photovoltaic (PV) market installations reached a record high of 2,826 megawatts (MW) in 2007, representing growth of 62% in 2007 over the previous year. European, China and US demand for Photovoltaic modules will more than triple by 2010, driven by innovations, economies of manufacturing, cost of alternate energy sources and government regulations and subsidies.
